The American Institute of Architects is one of the oldest professional organizations in the United States. It was formed by a group of New York architects in 1857 and they called it the New York Society of Architects. The name was changed shortly thereafter so that it would be more inclusive of all architects. The need for a professional organization was apparent because, at the time, anybody could call themselves an architect. Over time, only licensed architects who had graduated from an approved architecture program could become a member of the organization. That tradition continues today and architects must hold a current architect’s license from their state.
The AIA currently has over 300 local chapters across the United States, with a few scattered in Europe, Australia, and Asia. The organization has its headquarters in Washington D.C. at the American Center for Architecture. Their official monthly publication, ARCHITECT: The Magazine of the American Institute of Architects, is published by local publisher, Hanley Wood. There are over 200 full-time employees of the AIA that work in Washington. The Vice President and CEO of the AIA is Robert Ivy, who was named to the position in 2011.
Robert Ivy is one of the most well-respected architects and architectural publishers of the past 30 years. As the Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Ivy is charge with promoting and progressing the art of architecture in the United States and abroad. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Art from The University of the South and a Master’s degree in Architecture from Tulane University.
After graduating from Tulane, Robert practiced as an architect for 15 years as a principal at the firm Dean/Dale, Dean, and Ivy. While at the firm he also became involved as an architectural critic for numerous publications. In 1996, Robert became the Editor-in-Chief at Architectural Record, where he would lead the publication to a number of industry awards including 26 Jesse H. Neal awards. In 2001, Ivy wrote the authoritative biography of Frank Lloyd Wright assistant Fay Jones, titled Fay Jones: Architect.
Currently, Ivy is the Vice President and Editorial Director at publisher McGraw Hill Construction Media. He is a Senior Fellow at the Design Futures Council.
San Diego has one of the finest plastic surgeons in its midst whose specialty is buttock augmentation implants. His name is Doctor Mark Mofid. M.D. There has been a negativity associated with buttock augmentation implants, but due to the success of Dr. Mark Mofid, that perception is changing. His colleagues are taking notice of his success in turning their minds toward accepting the procedure as safe. Dr. Mofid is very diligent in his research and the pioneering of his innovations regarding buttock augmentation.
Dr. Mark Mofid received his training at Harvard and Johns Hopkins hospital in gluteal augmentation. He has perfected the procedure of buttock augmentation and uses this approach to demonstrate his skills and his specialized training. He received specialized training from Raul Gonzalez, MD in Brazil. Dr. Mark Mofid is very confident in the work he does, as a specialized plastic surgeon in buttock augmentation.
Dr. Mark Mofid will not perform buttock augmentation if it is not in the best interest of his patients. Some patients request he gives them larger implants. Because Dr. Mofid is a doctor with integrity he does comply with their request. He believes in doing what is in the best interest of his patients. Dr. Mofid uses only intramuscular implants on his patients.
According to Dr. Mark Mofid, patients who request large implants do not realize that having a larger buttock will cause problems such as palpability, separation of the incision and malposition. Due to gravitational pull, the implants will over a period of time move to another position causing the implant to hang over the fold of the buttocks.
Approximately 8 years ago, Dr. Mark Mofid began buttock augmentation using implants. Years ago the implants that were manufactured had to be altered because they were too large. These implants were made of silicone and were difficult to use. Dr. Mofid invented a Low Profile Round Gluteal Implant. His implant was designed for exactly what he and his patients needed. The result looks natural instead of unnatural. Dr. Mofid is a doctor who cares about his patients and takes pride in his work as a plastic surgeon.
